We regretfully announce the passing of Nancy Fernandez Richardson of Pierson and New Smyrna Beach, Florida on March, 10, 2024. Nancy was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully.
My mother, Nancy Richardson, was one of the strongest and kindest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have had her. Nancy was born in Cuba on July 31, 1947. Her family fled Cuba after the Cuban Revolution and they settled in Miami, Florida.
In 1971, she married Stephen R. Putnam and together they went on to have Stephen R. Putnam Jr. in 1980. She divorced Stephen R. Putnam Sr. in 1986. During her time as a single mother, she worked, went to a local community college, received her real estate license, and cared for her son. She continuously took classes throughout her life as she enjoyed learning. She married to Curtis W. Richardson, the love of her life, in 1992. Their time together was cut short when Curtis passed away in 1997. She worked with Curtis in his business till his passing and then took the reigns of his company for approximately a decade. Nancy was a wonderful and loving mother who gave all to her family. I will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.
Nancy was continuously involved in her community by committing her time to the Smyrna Yacht Club, The Pierson Women’s Gardening Club, and other local organizations. She enjoyed cooking and being active in her garden. Further, Nancy loved to travel and took many trips with Curtis, her son Stephen, and her sister Grace. Nancy and her sister, Grace Matthews, were inseparable and the best of friends.
Nancy Fernandez Richardson was predeceased by her husband Curtis W. Richardson and her parents Graciela and Carlos Fernandez. She is survived by her son Stephen R. Putnam Jr., Grace Matthews, and her niece Rhonda Finkel.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida with the Reverend Bob Brown, Coronado Community United Methodist Church, officiating. She will be laid to rest at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand, Florida. Friends will be received on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Settle-Wilder Chapel.
